"The Great Protest Songs"

"The Great Protest Songs"

Wednesday, November 19, 2025 @ 3:00PMWed, Nov 19, 2025 @ 3:00PM

Osher/FAU LLS, Boca Raton, FL, 777 Glades Rd

Call 561-297-3185 for information. Protest songs have been around for generations, from "I Didn't Raise My Boy To Be A Soldier" (#1 in 1915) to the ‘60s Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, Tom Paxton, Peter Paul & Mary, The Beatles and Joan Baez. As media consolidation has made protest less visible, independent composers continue to grace these times with thoughtful and inspiring songs. Join Rod MacDonald, Music Americana lecturer and co-producer of The Greenwich Village Folk Festival, for this video and live presentation of historic and current songs of humor, passion, and commitment to justice, common sense and freedom in today's world. Rod MacDonald began performing in NYC in the 1970s, and has recorded 14 albums of his songs, many also sung by other artists. His concert tours include N America, Europe, Australia and annual Dylanfests. Goldmine magazine called his 2023 cd Rants And Romance “pointed and prophetic, with melodies that ring, resonate and make emphatic impressions.” Rod is also Music Americana lecturer in Osher /FAU Lifelong Learning, and was named Distinguished Faculty Member in 2012.

Non-member call 561-297-3171 to register.
